Day 1 - Kaw Thuang ( Victoria Point ) to Barwell Island ( Zar Det Nge Kyunn Is): Transfer
by long-tail from Ranong ( Thailand ) to Kaw Thuang (Burma/Myanmar)
arriving on Chameleon around lunchtime. Once all the paperwork is
sorted, we sail to Barwell Island for an evening arrival.
Day 2 - Barwell Island to Mid Islands : After
exploring the island by Kayak we sail north to Palu Bada, Potter Island
and Caws Island that make up the Mid group. Wonderful beaches and great
kayaking and snorkeling in this idyllic anchorage and your first
opportunity to see the White Bellied Sea Eagles and Bromony Kites that
circle the skies.
Day 3 - Mid Islands to Lampi National Park ( Kun Tann Shey Is):
A short journey today to Lampi National Park . First stop is the Sea
Gypsy village on Pu Nala. In the afternoon we explore the coastline of
Pu Nala paddling to Lampi Island then the mangrove rivers on the west
side of Lampi Island. Plenty of wildlife and huge, century-old mangrove
trees towering overhead.
Day 4 - Further exploration of Lampi National Park :
with anchorage taken during the night between Lampi ( Kyunn Tann Shey)
and Wa Ale Kyunn Islands. Each evening a flock of sea eagles come in to
feed. A quite, protected anchorage with small tidal creeks to explore.
Day 5 - We explore the western shores of Wa Ale Kyunn Island taking anchorage for the evening at Clara Island ( Kyunn Me Gyee Is).
Day 6 - Clara Island to Great Swinton ( Khu Pin Lat Is):
Today we set sail for Great Swinton Island . Several kilometers of
white sand beaches, beautifully clear warm water and the most pristine
coral you have ever seen. A great island to paddle around with rocky
formations on its western shore.
Day 7 - Great Swinton to Cavern Island (Hlaing Gu Is) : Heading
south west to Cavern Island . Cavern Island is aptly named as on the
southern end there are indeed several large caverns some large enough
for a boat to go in. They make excellent exploration by kayak.
Day 8 - Cavern Island to McLeod Island (Koh Hin Khwa Is): We
sail south, passing deserted tropical islands before arriving at McLeod
Island . Another beautiful island covered in rainforest and some great
snorkeling. Here we have an opportunity to explore the rainforest and
perhaps even see the illusive Rhinoceros Hornbill. Anchorage is taken
in a well protected bay for the evening with a BBQ ashore. A wonderful
clear water and secluded beach with plenty of areas to explore by
kayak.
Day 9 - McLeod Island to Horseshoe Island (Myin Khwar Is):
Today we travel to the jewel in the crown of the Mergui Archipelago. As
the name suggests, this island in horseshoe shaped with a lagoon in the
middle making it the most idyllic anchorage. Being shallow, with
crystal clear water and a white sand bottom, the whole lagoon appears
like a giant fish tank.
Day 10 - Horseshoe Island to Kawthung:
This morning kayak to the nearby island of Copula (Lon Khwet Is). The
whole inside of the island is a giant cave, which can only be entered
by dingy at low tide. The cave is home to a small number of people who
live in a stilted village above the water. These people spend their
life in the half-light collecting bird's nests for the soup. After
lunch we depart for an evening arrival in Kaw Thaung.
Day 11 - Kawthung:
Leave Chameleon about 9 a.m for the long-tail crossing back to Ranong
(Thailand) to join our minibus to the airport in Ranong or back to
Phuket. |
